They do require certain nutrients and enzymes to convert the active ingredients EPA and DHA into our bodies, whereas fish and animal sources do not require this conversion.\u00a0 Hemp seeds are also a great plant source.\u00a0 The best plant sources are from the algae\u2019s Chlorella and Spirulina.\u00a0 These algae are similar to fish and animal sources in that the EPA and DHA is readily available for our bodies to utilise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/2019\/03\/28\/benefits-omega-3-essential-fatty-acids-bonus-recipe\/flax-chia-seeds\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5306\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5306\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/flax-chia-seeds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/flax-chia-seeds.jpg 6016w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/flax-chia-seeds-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/flax-chia-seeds-768x511.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/flax-chia-seeds-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/a>There are omega 3 supplements in both fish and plant sources if you feel you need a more therapeutic dose than what you can get from food.\u00a0 Fish oil has had the most scientific studies conducted.\u00a0 A recent study showed that even as early as 12 weeks into pregnancy, the mother taking omega 3 supplements during the pregnancy, reduced the risk of preterm birth.\u00a0 11% for childbirth before 37 weeks and 42% for childbirth before 34 weeks.\u00a0 This study also showed there are other advantages for both mother and baby for eye, brain and nervous system development.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing a qualified nutritionist would be a good idea to assess whether a supplement would be of benefit and correct dosage for your needs can be given.\u00a0 Unfortunately, fish oil supplements are not created equal, so you want to make sure you have one of the best quality supplements. You certainly don\u2019t want to be putting inferior oils into your body.<\/p>\n<p>For those fish loving friends, here is a simple yet delicious Indian inspired fish and chip recipe.\u00a0 My 20 month old loves the fish more than the chips!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Indian Inspired Fish and Chips<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>300g white fish of choice (I like ruby snapper or flat head)<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons sesame seeds (can be black or white)<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon mild curry powder (Vive has the best tasting and organic curry powders in their bulk spices)<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon white rice flour<\/p>\n<p>Extra Virgin Olive oil or rice bran oil for shallow frying<\/p>\n<p>3-4 large potatoes, scrubbed not peeled, cut into chip or wedges shapes (can also use sweet potato)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 180\u00b0C, drizzle olive oil and spread it around onto baking trays and spread out potatoes in a single layer. Spray or drizzle potatoes with some more extra virgin olive oil. Cook for 45 minutes until cooked and to your liking.<\/li>\n<li>Cut the fish into 4 pieces for each serve. On a plate mix together the curry powder, sesame seeds and rice flour.<\/li>\n<li>Coat each piece of fish with the curry mix.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat frying pan and heat oil until hot and add the fish pieces.
