There truly is nothing that beats that aroma. This turkey number is the perfect healthy &amp; nourishing comfort food.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey is one of our favourite animal proteins here at Vive. Naturally low in fat &amp; rich in tryptophan, an amino acid which supports the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter necessary for mood, sleep &amp; cognition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/2019\/07\/01\/slow-cooked-turkey-warming-winter-dish\/acs_0222\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5388\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5388\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"452\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0222.jpg 3446w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0222-300x237.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0222-768x608.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0222-1024x811.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turkey \u2013 1.8 kg &#8211; you can use a combination of Turkey shanks and Turkey wings<\/li>\n<li>4 medium size brown onions<\/li>\n<li>olive oil<\/li>\n<li>440 gr button mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>3 cloves garlic<\/li>\n<li>1 cup dry red wine<\/li>\n<li>2 sliced leeks<\/li>\n<li>3 large carrots \u2013 sliced big pieces<\/li>\n<li>1 small sweet potato (optional) &#8211; cut into chunks<\/li>\n<li>3 dried bay leaves<\/li>\n<li>6 sprigs fresh thyme<\/li>\n<li>4 sprigs rosemary<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00bd cups chicken broth<\/li>\n<li>1 can Muir Glen tomato paste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To thicken 20 minutes before serving<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00bc cup cornflour<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/2019\/07\/01\/slow-cooked-turkey-warming-winter-dish\/acs_0220\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5387\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-5387 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0220.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"404\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0220.jpg 4096w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0220-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0220-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vivehealth.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/ACS_0220-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Methods<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Peel onions and cut into quarters \u2013 heat oil and cook onions &amp; leek until browned &amp; remove from pan<\/li>\n<li>Leave mushrooms whole or cut in \u00bd and brown in olive oil &amp; remove from pan<\/li>\n<li>Brown turkey until brown on all sides &amp; remove from pan.<\/li>\n<li>Heat wine in fry pan used for browning until light boil.<\/li>\n<li>Place turkey at bottom of slow cooker, next onions, leeks, mushrooms, carrots, sweet potato, herbs, stock, wine &amp; top with tomato paste.<\/li>\n<li>Cook in slow cooker on low approx. 7 hours &#8211;<\/li>\n<li>Remove all bones &amp; skin before thickening <em>(the easiest method to removing the bones is to remove the turkey from the slow cooker, place onto a plate, remove the bones &amp; then add the meat back into the slow cooker).<\/em><\/li>\n<li>20 minutes before serving thicken with corn flour mixture.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Through-out winter we love nothing more than coming home to the smell of a slow-cooked meal.
